Shirley Manson has hit back at online critics who criticized her for getting older.
The lead singer of The Garbage confronted her online detractors, highlighting that she is “almost sixty years old” following a news piece that noted the members of her rock group appeared “unfamiliar” in recent promotional images.
“Look — I’m almost sixty years old,” Shirley, who is 58, commented next to a screenshot of the piece. “Obviously, I won’t resemble my late twenties self at all, right??? Honestly, I believe it might be somewhat unsettling if I did, but that’s just my opinion.”
She said she thought the journalist had \”turned their words into weapons.\”
\”In either case, this type of language is used as a weapon to keep someone like me in line,\” Shirley stated.
I\’ve made up my mind to turn down this present. It turns out to be a disappointment. I will proceed with my life and continue aging naturally.
Shirley subsequently outlined her plans for continuing to age gracefully through natural means.
I’ll keep wrinkling and stumbling — losing some height here and gaining a bit elsewhere — yet I\’ll still look adorable in my pajamas with messy hair and no makeup. Regardless of how I appear, irrespective of others\’ comments, I will consistently — now and forever — shine brighter than many.
When Garbage\’s song \”Only Happy When It Rains\” became a global chart-topper in 1995, Shirley was 28 years old.
