Tina Knowles, who is Beyoncé\’s mother, disclosed that she received a breast cancer diagnosis earlier this year. She mentioned undergoing surgery to extract two tumors. In her statement, she noted that the detection occurred following a postponed mammography session.
Knowles, who is 71 years old, discussed her stage one breast cancer diagnosis when speaking with reporters about her upcoming book titled \”Matriarch.\”
When she eventually went for the test, as she shared with CBS Mornings co-host Gayle King, doctors discovered two growths in her left breast; one tumor was non-cancerous, whereas the other had stage 1 cancer.
In August, Knowles had a lumpectomy to excise the malignant growth, and she is currently free of cancer.
Following the successful operation, the author of \”The Matriarch\” encountered a severe infection that almost caused her to skip Glamour’s 2024 Women of the Year celebration, which took place in October and celebrated her achievements.
She remembered feeling anxious as she entered the operating room, and mentioned that Beyoncé, who is 43, along with Solange, aged 38, and several friends came to the hospital to provide her with support.
\”I\’ve always made sure to look after myself. I simply … couldn\’t believe it,\” she stated.
\”It\’s crucial not to neglect your mammograms,\” Knowles told People.
She mentioned that her first appointment was postponed because ofCOVID-19, and she neglected to set up another one afterward.
Knowles recalled that Beyoncé noticed she appeared distracted and advised her against attending the ceremony.
“The fashion designer recalled her saying, ‘Your well-being matters more. Stay away from it.’”
Knowles mentioned that she intended to accept the award personally to commemorate her fresh start in life.
“Throughout much of my life, I simply chose not to seek recognition. I never accepted awards, and I always avoided drawing attention to myself,” explained the grandmother of four.
This used to be my motto: \’I deserve this.\’
The woman and writer learned of her transformative diagnosis earlier last year when she was concluding work on her book titled Matriarch.
\”I wrestled with the decision to include that part of my story in the book since I value my privacy greatly. However, I ultimately chose to share it as I believe there are valuable lessons within it for other women,\” she explained.
And I believe that as women, we often find ourselves preoccupied with various tasks and constantly rushing around, yet it\’s essential for you to make time to take your test.
Because if I hadn\’t received my test ahead of time, honestly, I dread imagining what might have occurred.
Nevertheless, she admitted that her daughters stayed hopeful about her recovery. She mentioned that Beyoncé \”handled it gracefully\” and maintained optimism upon hearing the news initially. Additionally, she shared that Solange assured her with, \”Mom, we will handle this together.\”
Knowles informed the publication that her family does not have a background of breast cancer, and nobody on her side possesses the BRCA gene, which is associated with the disease.
“She replied cheerfully, ‘I’m doing fantastic.’”
Cancer-free and immensely grateful that God gave her the chance to detect it early, she exclaimed with joy.
