is imposing a 100 per cent tariff on any movie produced outside the United States.
Through this action, Trump aims to prevent America\’s film industry from \’perishing rapidly.\’
He alleged on his Truth Social platform on Sunday that various countries are providing numerous enticements to lure filmmakers and studios away from the United States.
\’Hollywood and numerous other regions across the USA are experiencing devastation.\’
This is a coordinated action by other countries, hence posing a national security risk.
\’It is, in addition to everything else, messaging and propaganda.\’
Australia\’s federal government provides generous tax incentives to get films made Down Under, including a 30 per cent location offset and a 30 per cent offset for post, digital, and visual effects, while state governments also contribute their own support packages.
Trump announced that he is authorising the Department of Commerce and the US Trade Representative to \’immediately begin the process of instituting a 100 percent tariff on any and all Movies coming to our Country that are produced in Foreign Lands.
\”We want American movies made again,\” he ended his statement.
The arts minister, Tony Burke, stated that the government was keeping a close watch on the circumstances.
\”Everyone should know without any doubt that we will firmly stand up for the rights of the Australian film sector,\” he stated to the ABC.
Recent American productions shot in Australia feature The Fall Guy with Ryan Gosling, The Mongoose starring Liam Neeson, and Apex featuring Charlize Theron.
Various new film studios along with sound stages are at differing phases of planning and development across the Gold Coast, Coffs Harbour, Byron Bay, and Melbourne.
