John Paul Barajas Steps Into Weekend Anchor Role as KSAT Shuffles Promotions

Shake-ups with anchors are causing waves across the San Antonio television landscape, and
KSAT 12\’s latest change
is giving prominence to one of its well-known figures. Journalist John Paul Barajas is taking over as the weekend evening anchor, succeeding the long-standing anchor Courtney Friedman.

Barajas
shared the news
on social media Friday, April 18, calling the promotion a meaningful next step in his career. He\’s spent the past four years reporting for the ABC affiliate, covering everything from breaking news and local politics to community stories and high-profile trials.

“I’m humbled to take on the role of Weekend Evening Anchor. This is a position that has seen numerous exceptional journalists and KSAT legends. I’m enthusiastic about this new phase and additional responsibilities, which I consider an honor. Join me tomorrow at 5 and 10 p.m.!” he stated in the post.

His advancement follows closely on the heels of
Courtney Friedman\’s transition to the weeknight anchor desk
KSAT disclosed the update on Tuesday, April 8, stating that she would begin co-anchoring the channel’s midday news broadcast with Stephanie Serna from Monday to Friday. Although her advancement was verified then, Barajas had not previously shared this information publicly.

In the promotional announcement for Friedman, she shared a sentiment reflecting her joy at being able to spend more time with her loved ones: \”For the first time in over six years, Saturdays and Sundays will be mine again. You just might spot me enjoying time with my family during these days off! I\’m really looking forward to this fresh beginning.\”
